Open PhD Position at JKU Linz

The Institute of Business Informatics - Software Engineering at JKU Linz has an open research position within the project “CLEM - Combining Live and Exploratory Modeling” funded by FWF Austria and ANR France. The project runs jointly with the University of Rennes, with opportunities for exchange and occasional travel between the institutes.

The goal is to explore and provide dedicated support for live and exploratory modeling by applying language engineering concepts and AI-based techniques to experiment with executing models and receiving immediate feedback. The successful candidate will conduct research on novel model-driven engineering concepts, methods, and techniques for developing sophisticated modeling and simulation environments, and can pursue a PhD thesis within the scope of the project.

Research topics of interest (not limited to):

  • Live and exploratory modeling
  • Model-driven optimization
  • AI-supported modeling
  • Software language engineering and language workbenches

Desired expertise:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or a related field
  • Experience in model-driven software engineering
  • Strong programming skills and technological knowledge

Position details:

  • Start date: early 2026
  • Duration: initial 1-year contract with expectation of renewal for a total of 4 years
  • Salary: approx. EUR 2,785.00/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week
